Watering the Flowers and not the Weeds

Why mindset matters

Do you remember the Disney movie “Into the Woods”? If you like Broadway and have children, I recommend watching it. It’s the birthplace of once upon a time stories and they explore how life is more complex than happily ever after. The music is amazing.

There is a line in one of the song – “Be careful what you say, children are listening”. In the lens of mindset, I would say - Be careful what you say, your body is listening, your cells are listening, your brain is listening. It might sound a little woo woo, but your thoughts shape your reality. However, there is a lot of science that supports how mindset determines behaviour and action.

So every dig, every critical comment, every negative observation all adds up and you start to believe that it is just so. Its immovable, the stars have aligned, and this is how it is. If you focus on the things you need to change or that are not enough, you will find more evidence to support that mindset.

How dose mindset relate to massage? I treated thousands of individual and some (not all) will identify as their pain or injury. They are their back or neck pain or they feel their body is failing them. They have been carrying this point of view for years and apologising for their body not being enough. It can effect their stress levels, performance, mood and general outlook on life.

As a massage therapist, I am happy that the people that take the time to receive a massage from me to ease and manage their pains so they are moving with more ease. I am very good at identifying the gap between where you are and giving your steps towards where you want to be. Having a positive curious mindset about your body and wellness improves ones mood and general outlook on life.

So my online massage family, this is your kind reminder that - you are not your pain and your body is not an apology. Those who have receive a treatment from me, know I am passionate about their overall health and I love supporting bodies to unwind and decompress.

There is an energetic exchange when you put your attention on something. When we hold onto things that are irrelevant, it's like we are holding onto our poop, hoping that it will give nutrients. Your body will naturally let go of things that are not serving it. So in the words of Elas, let it go. Embrace what is serving you, what give you joy.

We are all intelligent and unique individuals, that come in an arrange of shapes, that have a plethora of abilities and talents. It is important to speak the things you want to become so. Put your attention on the things you want to grow and speak what you want to become true. Water the flowers not the weeds. Pay attention to your words and how you speak, because it shapes your reality. You are manifesting the realty you are living.

For those who want to lean more or may need some support on this topic or to learn about radical self-love and have a better mind set, I will suggest a book by Sonya Renee Taylor – The body is not an Apology and another great book would be Mindset by Dr Carol S Dweck.

If you have any musculoskeletal disfunction please reach out so I can share my POV on the topic. Stay tuned for more blog posts and thank you for reading. If you are ever in the Mount Lawley area, come on by for a chat.
